Annie's Grandma's Farmhouse White Bread

From the Houzz Cooking Forum, this is Annie's Grandma's Farmhouse White Bread recipe. It's a hearty bread that's perfect for French Toast. This can be made by hand or in the bread machine. If you use a bread machine, add the liquid ingredients first.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 package or 2-1/4 teaspoons of yeast
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 4-1/2 cups bread flour

Process:

  1. By hand: mix the milk, butter, and sugar until the butter melts and the liquid is very warm. Add eggs, then beat in the flour and yeast until stiff dough forms.
  2. Bread machine: liquids first then add the yeast and let it sit for a few minutes. Add the rest of the ingredients with the exception of 1/2 cup of flour. Add that as needed until you get a nice firm ball of dough.
  3. Turn the dough into a greased bowl and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles - about an hour.
  4. Punch it down and divide it into two small loaves or leave it as one large sammich size loaf and place it into a greased meatloaf pan to rise again for an hour.
  5. Baked at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes until the top starts to brown.
